I think you might be right, or at least right in the fact that I has been a sailor in a former life. Ever since I was a kid I knew I had been a sailor, who drunked. I have been afraid of Water ever since, and even today after all these years I cannot get my head under water. I just have to respect that, but I think I will paint more ships in the time coming, så thanks for the push. I think I will opload my viking-ship in this weekend. :)

I guess that you were a Viking in a former life. As to suddenly liking painting boats, perhaps they are symbolic of your sailing across and exploring the seas of eternity... :-)

That is very filosophic, and it is true that things often happens in strange ways. It is indeed a fantastic world we live in. What will happen to my finished painting of "Havhingsten", I dont know. I think it must be in an exhibition this year in december with my other 2 boats. I found myself suddenly liking to paint boats - very strange. I think I was a sailsman in a former life :)

I have no doubt that your finished 'Havhingsten' Viking Ship will be beautifully ferocious looking. As to the "Glendalough Coincidence' , some say that there are no coincidences. What those 'coincidences' are no one knows. Perhaps they are messages, or hints, for us to realise that everything is connected in some mysterious ways ?

What a coincidence - fantastic :) I choose this ship because I saw a film about it, and because it is the only real viking-ship I know of. Weird that you live in Glendalough. My painting is not a true copy of the ship. I can see from what I painted yesterday that the sail is a wrong dimension, but I hope it will end up to be a nice viking-ship after all :)

Wow - isn't that The Weirdest thing..., after all my joking around, you come up with the Viking Ship "Havhingsten fra Glendalough" - which is a Danish reconstruction of Skuldelev 2, one of the Skuldelev ships. The original ship was built around 1042 near Dublin with oak from Glendalough, Wicklow, Ireland, hence the ship's name. The Weird Thing is that I live in - Glendalough, which is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia !

Thanks a lot Variance :) , and Hartmut I have actually found my model. I will be the vikingship "Havhingsten", and its lying ready fo me on a blank canvas - just has to get the right mood ;)

Variance I can only totally agree, but wait there is more, much more to come, ...once Susanne gets stuck in to create a Viking Ship master-painting. :-) :-) :-)

Excellent ! Trees are a very important, if not essential ingredient in building Viking ships. Please keep me informed - if and when you are using the wood from your tree pictures, to paint a splendid Viking Ship ... :-) :-) :-)

Thank you so much David. You are very kind and I am very glad that you like it :) And Hartmut I am so busy right now paintings trees, so I must keep the vikings in mind to a more peacefull time. It could very well be that I ( a viking ;) ) would take up the challenge.

Susanne, I , and all Vikings who are residing in Walhalla , are very, very patient, but nevertheless insist that you honor their memory - with your expertise in painting a dragon headed Viking Ship. :-)

When I saw this as a thumbnail, I thought it was a photo and wondered first if anyone was aboard, then realized it was perfectly balanced on a sandbar. Only after clicking on it and examining very closely did I realize you painted it! Excellent job capturing water in motion and the wonderful swoop of that hull.

Beautiful subdued blue colors. However - - -, if you wanted to depict a Dragon headed Viking ship, it needs a little bit more work, ha ha ha... :-)

About Susanne Baumann

Susanne Baumann

About Susanne Baumann..I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I started many years ago to paint in oil on canvas. Then my husband and children came and I had to take a break from my hobby. Some years later I got my first camera, and I enjoyed taking photos very much. My children grew up and moved away from home. Soon, I bought my first digital camera. A Canon EOS100.. and WOW..Amazing! It followed me everywhere. More than 10.000 photos later, I joined a photo club and the challenge was to get better and better. I learned how to edit in photoshop and I developed my technic. About 4 years ago my son gave me some canvases and acrylic paints ..and I began to paint again. This resulted in more than 100 paintings! I have a small gallery and a few...
